Title: black dust from serpentine belt
Post by: tryme on September 03, 2024, 15:28:10 pm
winterizing the E21 this weekend noticed a lot of black dust from the serpentine belt.  i didnt check the pulleys yet but could i just be a worn belt?  or do you think i have a pulley going bad?

I had the same issue so I replaced the belt with a racing quality belt. It was made by Gates and I got it from Rock Auto years ago, but it doesn't look like they carry it any longer. That really reduced the amount of dust.

I'm pretty sure this is the one I have: https://www.motion.com/products/sku/10538935

Wow, great info! it has been a nuisance since I've owned epics, along with carpet fibers clogging the flame arrestor.

I clean it yearly, my pulleys were rusted so I pulled them off and wire wheeled them as Rick suggests. Did not know about orientation of sensor! I'll check and post a pic.
